City of Benicia: Mayor Steve Messina & the Benicia City Council Proclaim September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Solano County: The Solano County Department of Health & Social Services and Solano County Board of Supervisors Proclaim September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month (Resolution 2000-183)
State of California: The State Legislature Proclaims September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month (Senate Concurrent Resolution #46, Ortiz, Perata, Lempert)

The goal of the Catch the Wave Campaign is:
1. To encourage all 50 states to Proclaim September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and
2. To encourage all 50 states to educate the public to "Know the Risks" for Ovarian Cancer
Risk Factors for Ovarian Cancer
The risk for developing ovarian cancer increases:
· with age, especially after age 50
· with a family history of ovarian cancer
· if you had breast cancer
· in women who are infertile or who have not had children
Early Detection
Discuss with your doctor or medical care provider:
· Regular recto-vaginal pelvic exams (usually 1-3 years)
· For women at high risk, special screening tests such as ultrasound and the CA 125 blood test
Signs & Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer May Include:
· abdominal bloating, swelling and/or pain
· abdominal lump
· abnormal vaginal bleeding
· persistent digestive problems including stomach discomfort, gas, nausea
